During a medical emergency, you can override any restrictions that a patient has set on their My Health Record. This access is logged and subject to auditing, with the patient receiving a notification. Emergency Access eliminates the need for an Access code.
Follow these steps to get into a patient's My Health Record:
*Note: The My Health Record system regularly checks emergency access, and accessing records without an emergency can lead to criminal prosecution for healthcare providers.
- Log in to MediRecords.
- Navigate to the Patients section.
- Choose a specific patient.
- Click on the Clinical Tab.
- Open the Access Code form by clicking the MHR Icon.
- Activate Emergency Access by clicking the Emergency Access button, and turning it into a tick.
- Click on Reason and choose a reason from the provided list.
- Click Gain Access.
The MHR Icon will turn green, indicating that you now have access to the documents within the My Health Record.
