Security roles in MediRecords are used for managing and assigning security roles to the users registered on your MediRecords subscription. Security roles determine the level of access that users have and the administrative changes that they can make to your subscription.
When you first register your account and user name, you are given the security role of Practice Owner. This level of security access allows you to create new users, configure the appointment calendar and complete the other administrative tasks included in this Practice Setup Guide. There must be at least one user on your subscription that has the security role of Practice Owner.
When you register new users, they are given a default security role that is relevant to their user category. The security role they are assigned matches the level of access required to perform all tasks within their chosen user category. You can increase or decrease the level of security access that a user has by assigning them a new security role. Assigning a user a new security role does not affect their user category.
For example, it is very common for a practice owner to give their Practice Manager full administrative rights to their MediRecords subscription, which involves changing their security role from Practice Manager to Practice Owner. To do this, you would need to update the practice manager's security profile within User Settings.
To open User Settings:
- Click More
- Click Settings
- Click Subscription Details
- Click Users
- Click the Tick-box next to the name of the user that is having their security role changed
- Click Edit
- Click Security
The practice manager has been assigned the security role of the Practice Manager by default.
To change the role, click the down arrow to reveal a list of security roles.
Scroll down the list of roles and click Practice Owner.
Click Save to apply the changes.
The practice manager now has the security role of Practice Owner
Security roles can also be edited to reduce or increase permissions that allow users to view, create, edit or delete medical records, or make changes within the settings menu of MediRecords. To find out more about security roles investigate the security tutorial.
