This article will cover how to create scripts for government-subsidised medications (PBS) and subsidised medication for Veterans and their families (RPBS).
- To prescribe a new medication, first open a Patient Record and click Clinical Tab
- Click Medications >
- Click Current rX. A list of current and previously prescribed medications is available from this tab.
- Click New Rx to bring up the New Script screen.
- From the New Script screen, you can see a patient's demographic summary and allergies at a glance, and their medication history by clicking over the Rx History button.
- Click the Search box and enter the first few letters of a medication name to bring up a list of prescribable medications and select the medication from the list.
- Medication can be listed as Non-PBS or PBS/RPBS under Restriction in the medication list. To show only medication subsidised under the PBS and RPBS, click the PBS/RPBS listed only Checkbox.
- Click the Tick-Box next to the medication you wish to prescribe, which will bring up the medication information in the field below.
*NOTE: Any noteworthy interactions are visible from the top left under Interactions.
9. To view the Product Information (PI) or Consumer Medicines Information (CMI), click on CMI or PI, which will open in a popup window. You will need to have popups enabled in your browser for Medirecords to access this feature.
*NOTE: PI and CMI are provided courtesy of the medication supplier. If the PI or CMI information is not available, please contact the supplier directly.
10. Click Next to proceed.
11. Enter the Dose, Frequency, Food and Instruction, which will update the Medication Summary below the Patient Name.
*NOTE: When prescribing it is now mandatory to enter a dose in the dose field, this also applies to your complex instructions, you will still be required to make an entry in the dose field.
10. To add new custom instructions, click New.
11. Fill in the text field. To save these instructions as a template, enter a title in the field below and click Save.
12. These instructions are then available to be used by clicking Complex and selecting the template.
13. To delete an instruction template, click the X visible on the record.
14. After confirming the dosage details are correct, click Next.
15. If the medication is used to treat an onset condition, click the Condition Search bar type in the condition, and select it from the drop-down list.
16. If the medication will be used to treat an Existing Condition, click the Check Mark for Existing Condition and search or select the condition from the list.
17. Add any further details about the Condition treated, including if you'd like the condition added to the patient's Past Medical History (Add to PMH) or to make it Confidential.
Since the medication has had the default dosage and frequency prescribed and is not restricted, no authority code is required, however, if this is altered it will be needed.
18. Click Prescribe to show all prescribing options. Select ePrescribe and Print to create an electronic script or click Prescribe and New to add a new medication to the script in progress.
The medication will be selected and visible from the Current Rx screen.
