What is a Payee Provider?

The person who receives payment from Medicare is known as a Payee Provider. A servicing provider, or the one that actually performed the service for the patient, might also be a payee provider.

For instance, if a Servicing Provider has attended a patient and rendered the service, his or her Payee Provider Number associated or registered with Medicare has been mentioned for payment or benefit. After filing a claim, he or she will subsequently receive the payout or money from Medicare.

Medicare will pay the benefit into the bank account linked to the Payee Provider Number rather than the servicing Provider Number if the Payee Provider Number is provided on an invoice.

There may be several servicing providers working for a practice or clinic in some circumstances. To ensure that all Medicare payments are paid into the same bank account, you could decide to use one practitioner's Provider Number as the Payee Provider Number for everyone in your practice group
