Configuring your Prescribing Preferences in MediRecords helps streamline the way you write and manage prescriptions. By tailoring these settings to your individual workflow, you can save time during consultations, reduce repetitive data entry, and ensure that your prescribing aligns with your clinical style and practice requirements.
This article will guide you through updating your preferences so that each time you prescribe, the process is faster, more accurate, and personalised to the way you work.
Some of the Preferences described in this article are also included in video format in Top Tip: Customising your Clinical Workflow - Save Clicks. Save Time. Focus on Patient Care.

Default Product View
This option sets your preferred product view within the medications search when you first open the window. Setting your favoured default here can save you time later.
For example, if you only ever prescribe Drug Recipes, setting your Default Product View to Recipes will save you a click on every prescription you create.
Favourites: This will filter the medication list to only display medications that you have favourited.
Product Name: This option presents you with a search field so you can search by branded or generic medication name (the most common search type).
Recipe: This will filter the medication list, so you only see Drug Recipe items created by yourself and others in your practice.
Class: This option allows you to browse medications in line with the "body system" used by PBS.
Prescription Print Type
Changes to this setting affect the way a prescription is displayed and printed after creating a prescription. By default, the option will be set to PBS Prescription Paper, which covers the vast majority of prescription use-cases and usually does not need to be changed.
PBS Prescription Paper: the standard printing format. The template is designed to print the information from the prescription into defined spaces on the PBS prescription paper.
Plain Paper PBS Image Overlay: this option does not change the way the fields are printed, but instead places an image copy of the PBS template behind the prescription, so you can check that the fields are printed in the correct places. This is rarely used but can be helpful in troubleshooting printing issues.
Hospital PBS Prescription Paper: this setting prints an entirely different variation of the prescription format, for use in hospitals, and includes extra information about dispensation.
Real-Time Prescription Monitoring
Real time prescription monitoring in MediRecords helps prescribers check for risk signals before issuing monitored medicines. When you write or edit a script for S8 or other high risk items, MediRecords pings the relevant state portal based on your practice location and shows a clear status notification. You get quick color coded alerts that reflect recent prescribing and dispensing history, without leaving your workflow. If an alert requires action, a one click link takes you straight to the state portal to review the patient’s profile in more detail.
Enabling Real-Time Prescription Monitoring is highly advised. You can read more about this program in the Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM): Configuration & Quick Guide
