Investigation Request Templates control the request or referral form that is generated when you print or email a Pathology or Radiology request. Each Service Provider is linked to a single template, so once configured correctly, requests print in the right format automatically without any extra steps at the point of care.
Getting this configuration right matters. If a Service Provider does not have a template linked, printing an Investigation Request will not produce any output, and no error message is shown to explain why.

Linking a Template to a Service Provider
MediRecords provides a large range of Pathology and Radiology request or referral forms from major lab providers in Australia. These templates are pre-created and stored in the MediRecords templates database.
- Click More.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Configuration Settings.
- Click Care System Configuration.
- Select Investigation to open the investigation template settings.
- Click the field next to the provider's name under the Template heading and select the appropriate template from the drop-down list.
- Once all relevant templates have been assigned, click Save to apply the changes.
ℹ️ Note:
- When you create a new Investigation Request, it will print using the template linked to that provider.
- A Service Provider can only have one template linked per tenant. There is no option to assign multiple templates to the same provider.
What Happens if No Template Is Linked
If a Service Provider does not have a template linked, attempting to print an Investigation Request will not produce any document. Nothing happens, and no error or warning message appears to explain why the request has not printed.
Request List of Tests Appears Blank
This is a separate but related issue. The list of available tests or scans will not load until a Service Provider has been selected on the request. Select a Service Provider first, and the list will populate as expected.
Checking if an Investigation Template Is a PDF
Only PDF templates support certain features, such as emailing a request directly to a patient. To check whether a template is a PDF:
- Navigate to More → Resources → Letter Templates.
- Enter the name of the Investigation Template in the search bar and press Enter.
- If the template opens in a PDF viewer, it is a PDF template. If no viewer opens, the template is not a PDF.
You can tell whether a template is a PDF by looking for a tool bar like this:
Common Issues When Printing Investigation Requests
No Print Pop-up Appears
If clicking print produces no pop-up at all, rather than simply no document, this is usually unrelated to template configuration and is instead caused by pop-ups being blocked in your browser, or by a third-party browser extension. See When I Try To Print a Letter or Other Document, No Print Pop-out Comes up. What Should I Do? for the full troubleshooting steps.
