The MediRecords Mobile App allows patients to stay connected with their healthcare providers by securely sharing important health information. When a patient links their app to your practice, they can view their results, medications, immunisations, and more, while you gain the ability to receive and import patient-entered data directly into their record.
This article will guide you through how to connect a patient to the mobile app, what information is shared with them, how to prevent sensitive results from being published, and how to manage data that patients send back through the app. By using these features, you can streamline communication, improve patient engagement, and ensure that key information is always up to date.

Connecting a Patient to the Mobile App
- Open the Patient Record;
- Make sure the patient's Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Phone and Email are correct;
- Set the patient's Mobile Phone number as the Primary Contact number;
- On the right-hand side, click App Invite;
- Click Continue (the right-hand button) to acknowledge the contact details are correct;
- If you are unsure of the contact details, click OK to return to the patient record;
- The App Invite button will now say App - Pending;
- Click Save to apply the changes.
The patient will be sent a text message inviting them to download the MediRecords App. The SMS will also include a secure token, unique to each patient.
What does this message mean?
We want to make sure that we have the correct mobile number of the patient for them to receive the token invite.
Ask the patient to follow these steps to share their account with your practice:
1. Opening the MediRecords Patient app
2. Selecting the Share Records icon
3. From the next screen, choose to share the following:
- Contact Details (Non-clinical information)
- Clinical Summary (Allergies, Immunisations, current conditions, and current medications)
- Full Records (Complete medical history including correspondence and results of investigations)
4. From the next screen, request the patient to search for your practice by using the search toolbar at the top of the list.
5. Once the practice has been found, select the share icon again on the top right of the app screen.
6. Confirm the pop-up message that asks if you are sure you wish to share your medical records.
Your patient has now shared their records with your practice.
What Information is Shared with the Patient?
Any data created in the record of a Patient who is connected to the Mobile App will be shared with them, as long as the specific record is not marked confidential. This applies to:
- Results
- Requests
- Correspondence Out
- Medications
- Immunisations
- Allergies & Reactions
- Medical Conditions
- Procedures
- Observations
Preventing the Publication of a Result
The MediRecords App has been designed so that patients can review their results in real time as they are added to their clinical record.
In certain instances, doctors may prefer to discuss results face-to-face, particularly in cases where the results contain sensitive information about the patient's condition. Marking a result as Confidential will stop it from being seen on the MediRecords App. You can use this method to both stop new results being sent to the MediRecords App, and to hide visibility of existing results.
- Open the patient record;
- Navigate to the Clinical tab
- Select Investigations from the menu at the left
- Ensure you are in the "Results" section of Investigations;
- Click the Tick-box next the name of the result, and click Edit;
- Click the Confidential tick-box;
- Click Save to apply the changes.
The results have been marked as confidential and will no longer be visible in the MediRecords App.
Importing Patient-Entered Data from the Mobile App
If your practice has been shared a patient's details, it will appear in the Secure Messaging Holding Bay, with the subject starting with "Mobile".
For more information about the Secure Messaging Holding Bay, please refer to our article here.
To view the shared information from the patient, click the Tick-Box next to the record you wish to view, click More then click View Sharing Document.
This will bring up a pop-up of all information the patient has shared, scrollable using the Mouse Wheel or the Scroll-bar.
To print the shared information, click Print.
To Update the patient's record directly from the Secure Messaging Holding Bay, click the Tick-Box next to the record you wish to use, click More then click Update Shared Information.
Click Continue to confirm.
