A provider’s duty of care does not end when a pathology or radiology request is raised. It includes reviewing results when they return, identifying abnormalities, and ensuring prompt, documented follow up with the patient. Missed or delayed follow up of abnormal results is a recognised patient safety risk, so practices need dependable systems that support visibility of requests and make it easy to confirm that every result has been seen and acted on.
Global Requests provides a tenancy wide view of all pathology and radiology requests, helping practices track what is still outstanding, partially received, or requiring action. By improving oversight across clinicians and locations, it supports continuity of care and reduces the likelihood of clinically significant results being overlooked. This article explains how to enable and use Global Requests, filter and review items efficiently, and update statuses or create clinical actions to close the loop with patients.

Enabling Global Requests
Case Management is enabled across the tenancy, through the Settings window.
-
Navigate to More > Settings > Premium Features.
- On the Global Requests tile, toggle the switch to the On position
- The Global Requests menu will then appear in the Workflows menu in the side-navigation
Global Request Grid Filters
- From the Navigation menu, click Workflows
- Click on Global Request
-
By default, the grid displays investigations created on the current day and the current logged in practice. Use the arrows beside the Today button to move forward or backward by a day, select a Quick Select date range to prefill the From and To dates, and click Today to return to the current date.
Note: The arrows are only available when viewing a single day; the Today button appears blue when on the current date and grey when viewing a different date.
- To filter, click on the Filter button. You will be presented the filter modal, and you can filter your search by, Requested by, Practice, Type, status and Priority. Click Apply to apply and save the filter or Click on Clear All to remove all filters applied
Opening a Test using the Test Name Hyperlink
- To open the Investigation Request form, click on the Test Name hyperlink under the Test name column.
- User can make changes if the request is in Draft Status and save this as a Draft again or click Save to move to Outstanding Status.
NOTE: The user can click Back on their browser to return to the Global Request grid. Depending on the number of redirect steps taken to reach the request form, it may be necessary to click Back several times. Opening the form in additional tabs is not supported due to the current functionality of patient tabs in MediRecords.
Changing a Status of a Request
- To change a status of a request that is currently in Outstanding status, locate and select a request in the Global Request grid.
- On the Status column, click on the Status dropdown and choose the appropriate status.
- In this example, we selected Fully Received. The colour of the status will change from Amber to Green, with a label saying "Fully Received Record. Status cannot be changed."
- To change a status of multiple requests, tick the boxes next to the requests and click on Status on the top part of the grid. Click on the dropdown and choose the appropriate status.
NOTE: This action is only supported when all selected requests share the same status (for example, three requests with an Outstanding status). The drop-down will appear disabled if the selected requests have different statuses (for example, two Outstanding and one Draft).
Status Movements:
| Initial Status | Can be Changed to | Notes |
| Draft | Cancelled | Once printed, request is moved to Outstanding |
| Outstanding | Cancelled/On Hold/Partially Received/Fully Received | |
| Partially Received | Fully Received/Outstanding | |
| Fully Received | - | |
| On Hold | Outstanding | |
| Cancelled | - |
