This article explains two common eRx errors, E99003 and E99033, encountered when prescribing an eScript in MediRecords. It covers the causes, typically special characters or configuration mismatches, and how to resolve each one.

Error E99003
Cause
If you see an E99003 error when sending an electronic prescription, it usually indicates that there are special characters or symbols in one of the following areas:
-
Patient demographic details (e.g., name, address)
- Patient Setting Details (Name and Surname Alias)
- Drug Recipe
- Prescription instructions or annotations
- User Profile's Biography (e.g., qualifications containing hyphens or special symbols)
- Practice Details (Practice Name, Address 1, Address 2, Suburb, State, Postcode, or Email), found under More > Settings > Subscription Details > Practices > select the practice > Details. Because these fields are shared by the whole practice, a special character here can affect every prescriber and patient at that practice, not just one record.
Narrowing Down Which Field Is Affected
If you're not sure which field contains the special character, the pattern of who's affected by the error can point you to the right area before you go looking field by field:
- If the error occurs for one patient only, across multiple providers, the issue is most likely in that patient's information.
- If the error occurs for multiple patients but only one provider, while other providers are unaffected, the issue is most likely in that provider's User Profile.
- If the error occurs across all patients and all providers, the issue is most likely in the shared Practice Details, since every prescription for that practice draws on the same practice-level fields.
Examples of problematic characters
- Normal hyphen:
-(OK) - Symbol hyphen from Word:
—(NOT OK) - Apostrophe typed from keyboard:
'(OK) - Symbol apostrophe pasted from another source:
'(NOT OK)
These special characters often look identical to a normal keyboard character at a glance, especially when pasted in from Word, an email, or another external source. The field can look completely normal and still contain the problem character.
Resolution
- Remove or replace special characters in the areas mentioned above with standard keyboard characters.
- If unsure where the issue is, retype the affected fields manually instead of copy-pasting.
Escalate
If the error continues after removing or replacing the affected characters, contact MediRecords Support with the patient or record involved so we can investigate the specific field causing the rejection.
