Transform the way your practice manages referrals with the Consultmed integration for MediRecords. By bringing referral workflows directly into your clinical system, you can reduce manual handling, improve communication with other providers, and ensure every referral is securely tracked from start to finish. Clinicians can receive referrals electronically straight into the MediRecords Inbox, while also sending referrals via Consultmed that are automatically stored as part of the patient’s clinical record.
This seamless integration allows you to manage referrals without switching between systems, keeping all correspondence in one place and aligned with your existing workflows. Once configured, secure API connections enable Consultmed referrals to be accessed and managed directly within MediRecords, helping your team save time, stay organised, and deliver a more connected patient experience.

Pre-Requisites
Before you will be able to complete the steps in this article, you will need an active and valid FHIR API and Connect API token. Connect customers can request as many API tokens as they need for no extra charge.

If you need a new API token or a copy of your existing token, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager. If you are unsure who your Customer Success Manager is, contact the team at success@medirecords.com.
ConsultMed Configuration
When you have the information for your API Keys, you can then begin configuring the integration within ConsultMed.
- Login to Consultmed via web browser
- Open User Settings
- Click on Software Integrations
- Select MediRecords
- When prompted, enter the following details into the fields provided:
- MediRecords FHIR API Token
- MediRecords Connect API Token
MediRecords Configuration
Once ConsultMed has been configured, you can enable the connection within MediRecords.
- Open More & click Settings
- Click on the Partner Products tile
- Turn the ConsultMed toggle from Off to On
ConsultMed will then be enabled within MediRecords:
- Your tenancy is now authorised to receive referrals from Consultmed into the MediRecords Inbox
- A ConsultMed icon will appear in patient clinical records, in the Today's Notes tab
Using ConsultMed
You can now begin using ConsultMed from within the Care application.
- Open a patient record
- Navigate to the Clinical tab, and select Today's Notes
- You will now be able to see the new ConsultMed icon in the Quick Actions bar
- Click on the ConsultMed icon to open the login page and proceed to login
- You can then create or view referrals within ConsultMed.
If you require assistance with creating or viewing referrals within ConsultMed, please consult the ConsultMed user guides or reach out to the ConsultMed Support team. - When referrals are created in ConsultMed and sent by a practice or clinician who is integrated with MediRecords, the referrals appear within the Correspondence Out grid within the relevant patient clinical record.
- If a referral created in ConsultMed is sent to a recipient whose practice is integrated with MediRecords, the referral will appear in the recipient's MediRecords Inbox.
If the sender is a MediRecords user sending an outbound referral using a MediRecords patient, referral acknowledgements will return to the sender's MediRecords Inbox.
Disabling ConsultMed
If you would like to disable the connection between MediRecords and Consultmed, you can do this from within the Care application.
- Open More & click Settings
- Click on the Partner Products tile
- Turn the ConsultMed toggle from on to off
- Click Yes on the confirmation prompt
ConsultMed will then be disabled within MediRecords:
- Your tenancy will no longer receive referrals from ConsultMed into the MediRecords Inbox.
- The ConsultMed icon will disappear in patient clinical records, in the Today's Notes tab
